A toilet is an essential part of the home. Nearly everyone has at least one in their homes. Its probably not something we give a second thought to, but think about how inconvenient it would be if the toilet stops functioning. What are some things we should do to ensure the toilet is properly maintained?

While toilets seem to function quite simply, the fact is that their design is rather complex. They require every part to be in good working order. The toilet bowl is something that should be checked periodically, look for any signs of damage such as chips in the porcelain. A toilet with damage like that, would be noted down as defective by a home inspector.

What should you do to test if your toilet is in good working order? An easy start is to flush each toilet in the home, check if its taking a long time for them to fill up again. Are they taking too long to flush also?

Is the toilet constantly running? Although you may have become used to it, having water constantly running like that could end up costing you quite a lot of money. Even if you have private well water, you could be wasting a lot and even causing damage to the pump.

Did you know that the average person uses the toilet around 2500 times each year? That’s a lot of water used. Were you also aware that toilets made since 1994 have a 1.6 gallon per flush restriction? When we think of it though, that’s still a great deal of water.

With these facts in mind, isn’t it a good idea to keep your toilet as well maintained as possible? If you would like your toilet inspected, please feel free to contact us and we would be happy to assist you.
