When you have hardwood floors, you are always concerned about scratches. It seems like it is such an easy thing to happen. Someone slides their chair out and you can literally hear the floor screaming in your head. Of course, most homeowners will do their best to protect their floor by having felt under chair legs and avoiding wearing shoes on their floor, but this doesn’t mean that your visitors will show the same care. So, does a scratch mean the end for your beautiful floor? Not necessarily.
You can repair minor scratches to wood floors with a little bit of work. If it is a shallow scratch, you can use steel wool to smooth out the surface, and if it is deeper, you might want to use some sandpaper. It is important to work along with the grain when you sand the floor and to clean up the surface very well before you apply some wood filler, and same again before finishing the job off with polyurethane. You might even be able to get the floor to look just like new.
