With conventional lamps, there were not often options when it came to selecting the color and feel of the emitted light itself. When choosing a modern lamp or globe, there are now many options for color and brightness you can select from in order to change the mood in your space. These temperatures are measured in Kelvins, denoted by a ‘K’. When looking for light sources, you will likely see Kelvin ratings from 1000K, which is very warm light, to 10000K, which is a very cold white light. A simple way to understand these numbers is that the higher the number, the closer the light will be to resembling bright daylight.
When buying your bulbs or lamps, you should find the kelvin rating clearly printed on the packaging. Keep in mind that there are slight variations between manufacturers, so if you want identical light from each build, you will need to purchase them all from the same brand, and perhaps get a few spares, just in case.
