Your roof has a huge surface area. So when the sun hits it, it is bound to pick up quite a bit of heat, and this heat is then transferred into your home. If you are trying to keep your home cool, this could add quite a bit to your energy bill. So what can you do?
An option that is getting more popular is to install a cool roof. Cool roofing reflects the sun’s heat much more efficiently than a regular roof and will thus retain very little of it. While it isn’t cheap to install, it does lower your cooling bill, and it does last longer than other roofing materials that deteriorate in the sun. You have the option of installing a new roof that already was coated at the factory, or you can apply the coating to your existing roof. Either option will give you the benefits, but depending on the age of your current roof, a coating might be more cost-efficient.
