We’ve all had those terrible moments where the coffee cup slipped, or meatball rolled off the plate and left a nasty stain on the sofa. But worse yet are the times when we needn’t even notice the stain until days or even weeks later! Most know that the sooner a stain is attended to, the more likely it will come out. But what if you only found the stain much later, is there any hope?

Steam might be your savior. Steam can soften the stain and lift it off of your sofa’s fabric. So before you next try cleaning off a stain with a chemical solution, start by first using your iron or steamer and gently apply some steam to the stained area. Don’t apply the steam directly, which can burn the fabric. Take your time steaming the area from a distance, allowing the steam to work on the stain particles. Then as soon as you finish steaming, take a damp cloth and gently dab the area repeatedly to lift the particles from the fabric. Make sure not to rub the stain, rather repeating the steaming process a few times until the stain has lifted.
